Hopefully you've noticed that where once stood a bustling little coffee bar with smiley staff, killer coffee, beautiful local art all wrapped in a funky space, there now stands a bare room.
On November 26, 2012 we opened the doors to Shatterbox Coffee Bar at 950 Yates Street. In so doing, we set ourselves down a path that would lead to some wonderful achievements. By choosing to serve people, rather than to simply serve coffee we created a place in Victoria where you're more important than your order. Our success in this matter has led us on more than one occasion to be likened to TV's Cheers because of how comfortable people are in the shop - a comparison I'm pretty pleased about.
Also, even early on when our house espresso was still in its development stages, people came to appreciate that our commitment to Northern Italian espresso coffee traditions made a real difference in the enjoyment of their daily coffee. Every day we seek to demonstrate how coffee traditions that were developed alongside the brew method itself give us the most flavourful, well-rounded espresso possible. We consistently hear from customers that ours is their favourite espresso in Victoria, their favourite cappuccino and latte - a true testament to the the roasters and blenders I learned from in Europe, and the talented team up at Drumroaster Coffee in Cobble Hill for being able to replicate the extremely exacting standards.
Maybe it's the fact that over the past month I haven't been spending quite as much "quality time" behind the bar that I'm all wistful, but I do know that we've had some amazing times in the heart of Harris Green, and we'll miss all our neighbours from Philip Nyren and Atlas Audio Video, to London Drugs, Bosley's and the Market on Yates, to Moxies, Dolce Vita, and Bin 4. Thank you all for your support over the last two and half years.
And so begins the next chapter in the book of Shatterbox. We hope to open in our new space at 916 Pandora Ave. by the 8th of April. With the new space comes a new layout and a kitchen! We're not set on what the kitchen will bring to the new version of the 'box, but you can count on it being good when it happens. We, of course, hope that everyone who helped make our Yates St. location a success will find their way to our new home and join us in welcoming (hopefully) many new people to the Shatterbox crew!
Thank you all for your support!
All the best,
